Shee Kupi is a humanitarian and peacebuilder who hails from Lamu County. He serves as the Director for Disaster Risk Management and Peacebuilding in the Lamu County Government.
He has a long track record of working in very challenging, fragile contexts, especially coastal and border communities, including areas around the Kenya–Somalia border and the Boni Forest, which are prone to conflict.
He’s particularly known for integrating disaster preparedness, maritime rescue, and peacebuilding, training community volunteers, and creating early-warning systems.
In October this year, he was awarded the AidEx Humanitarian Hero of the Year. The award was given at the AidEx Humanitarian and Development Summit in Geneva, Switzerland.
The award was a recognition for exceptional courage, innovation, and leadership in helping fragile coastal and border communities, particularly in Kenya and Somalia.
His initiatives have focused on disaster risk reduction, environmental protection, and youth empowerment, directly supporting thousands affected by floods and conflict-driven displacement.
